New York’s Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council’s annual progress report, released on December 18, 2025, reinforces the State’s commitment to its bold goal of cutting the state’s child poverty rate in half by 2032, and builds upon the Council’s recommendations released in 2024.
As a coalition that advocates for investments that bring economic security to every New York family, the New York Can End Child Poverty coalition is encouraged by the progress made in the past year.
As the CPRAC progress report makes clear, however, the work is not done. These first steps must be followed by further intentional investments focused on low-income children and families across NYS. As the federal government strips support away from low-income and working families, New York’s leaders must step up to ensure families have access to the resources they need to thrive.
Now is the time for New York State – for our Governor and our Legislature – to double down on their commitment to ending child poverty here in the Empire State and consider every policy with regard to its impact on child poverty.
